Introducing Carmen

Occupational Therapist practicing in Mid Canterbury

Carmen Tindall
NZROT, MNZAOT

Occupational Therapist
Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau

Work & Workplace Specialist
Mahi & Wāhi Mahi Tohungatanga

I have been a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) for over almost 30 years and with my wide range of ACC Vocational Rehabilitation experience, I can offer a skilled service to best help my local community of Mid Canterbury.   I enjoy helping people achieve best outcomes to help return people to work and their wider life.  Injury can have a significant impact on the injured person, their family and their employer.  Finding the best way forward is what I want for people in any situation.

I can accept self referrals for ACC return to work programmes – or from employers, physiotherapists, GP’s or Specialists.  ACC often refer directly, but it’s often more timely from employer/employees in the situation.

I really enjoy working closely with other providers (physiotherapists, GP’s, hand therapists) to help ensure the best outcome for people who are injured.

Model of Practice

Within my Occupational Therapy practice, I use the PEO (Person, Environment, Occupation) Model of Practice to support my reasoning process and ensure current evidence-based practice. This model aims to review the aspects for the individual, their work environment and the tasks (or occupations) they are involved in. The issues are then reviewed in an analytical way to consider the environment + person, the person + occupation, and the occupation + environment issues. This then identifies the most relevant concerns and allows prioritising of the steps that are required to improve the “fit” of the situation and ensure best outcomes for worker and employer.

You can now contact me directly if your employee has a current ACC medical certificate and they’ve given their consent. Alternatively, you can reach out to ACC directly to request Vocational support. Yes, it’s that easy! Just drop me a message or contact ACC for a Stay at Work referral. Let’s ensure your team gets the support they need to thrive.

Yes, within my intervention I can liaise with other health professionals and gather data about likely timeframes to help with planning around staff cover.

The DHB (i.e. hospital) has some resources for this, however if you wish to pay privately, I could assist with this process.

I would  schedule an initial workstation review with employee/s, and document recommendations to improve the ‘fit’ between person, their workstation, and their tasks.  Follow up to review progress can be completed if required.  I can provide quote for this type of workplace support as required.  Each employee would require 20-30mins for the initial meeting depending on complexity of the situation.

As an experienced Occupational Therapist, I have a specialised skill set to help me look at the ‘fit’ between the person, the environment and the task (or occupation).  I can then identify issues and how to best improve the situation.  My recommendations may include purchasing equipment, but often it’s about adapting the way the person interacts with their current arrangement to reduce risk of harm or discomfort.

What My Clients Say...

Jason Francis
Site Manager, Agripro PGG Wrightson Seeds
“Over the last five years we have worked with Carmen Tindall on six separate ACC back to work rehabilitation plans and with great results for both us and the staff members affected.

Carmen approached each of these cases with a neutral stance and found a safe workable solution for both us and the employees.  She took the time to understand the person and their work habits, the work environment that they were to be exposed to and our needs.  When there was a disconnect between the work environment and the employee’s ability, she explored other options on site that suited the rehabilitation plan better.

Once all this was done, her communication with ACC and us was clear and transparent, the plans were discussed with all parties and there were no grey areas, everyone knew what the end goal was.  As a result, every one of our back to work rehabilitation plans ran smoothly and everyone involved was happy with the outcome.

We have no hesitation in recommending Carmen for this type of work.”
